Q1 Please share your stories between you and China.

I started to study Chinese language during weekend in a Chinese language school when I was 14 years old. This is because I got an inspiration to study Chinese from my father. He believed that Chinese language would be very important language in the future, even though he did not have an opportunity to study Chinese, as Thai government did not support the teaching of Chinese language at that time. Since then I became interested in Chinese language, and I completed my bachelor’s degree majoring in Chinese language from Chulalongkorn University. After that I received the scholarship from The Higher Education Commission of Thailand, Ministry of Education to further conduct the master’s degree in “Teaching Chinese as a foreign language” major at Xiamen University. From 2009 to present, I have been working as a Chinese language lecturer at Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, Thailand. In addition to the Chinese teaching, I also have been conducting researches on Chinese -Thai translation, and the China study.

Q2 How did you objectively show the readers the real Chinese culture in your work?

“Sincerity and Honesty to the readers as they were your family members.” is the heart and key principal of my work.

Firstly, I will determine the purpose of the translation, in order to determine how I should express the message I wish to translate. Understanding why we’re translating and what we hope to achieve is vital, in addition to who am I translating to and what do I want them to get, can go a long way toward helping us to use proper styles of translation before putting words on paper.

After determining the purpose, use the sincere and honest translation styles to attract and keep the reader’s attention.

Q3 Concerning your current study on Chinese culture and language, what are the difficulties and challenges?

As a Chinese language teacher, I think that the teaching of Chinese culture and language, nowadays, is not only the teaching of the traditional Chinese culture such as Chinese Arts, Chinese festivals, etc. But in the changing world, teaching more practical Chinese culture is very important. For example, understanding the influence of Chinese culture on their beliefs, thinking, values, their ways of life. Students need to have deeper global awareness and understanding of other cultures, and in today's increasingly interconnected and globalised world as well.

Q4 What are difficulties in aspects of translating and publishing Chinese works in other countries.

The market demand of the publication, as there are gaps between two cultures, what is interesting in one culture, may not be interested in the other. The demand will depend on the interest of the readers. Also, the changing world and the interest of the readers are changing all the time.

The translation compensation. For example, in Thailand it is impossible to raise a family by simply relying on the income from translated books. Therefore, it is very difficult to produce professional and excellent translators. It is because a good book must be accompanied by a good translation to be truly popular, otherwise it will never have a good work, and will not be able to make the market flourish.

Q5 What opportunities do you think will be brought to China and your country by the Belt and Road Initiative?

The Belt and Road Initiative will increase the number of investment, trades, language and culture exchange between Thailand and China. Understanding between Thai and Chinese people in globalization era is very crucial.
